ENDORSEMENTS

Mylan C. Fink Jr.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff
19 June 2018

"When I ran for Sheriff in 2014, my main goal was to cultivate future leaders in the Sheriff’s Office.

Endorsing my successor is not something I take lightly, as he will be the future leader of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. I have a sense of obligation to the people who supported me during my years as your Sheriff to recommend the candidate whom I feel is best qualified to become our next Sheriff.

Based on his qualities of leadership, experience, and trust, it is an easy decision to endorse Captain Ryan Waldschmidt for Sheriff in the August 14th, 2018, Republican Primary.

As I watched Ryan mature over his 20+ year career, and watched him grow into so many roles and duties involving leadership, it became clear that he was going to be a future leader in this office.  Ryan possesses a unique skill set that is a blend of common sense and intellect that is glaringly apparent.  A combination of both of these skills is very rare.  His dedication and energy to make himself the best deputy he can be has allowed him to achieve a thorough working knowledge of both the jail and law enforcement divisions of the Sheriff’s Office.

As I leave office, I am confident that under the leadership of “Sheriff Waldschmidt,” he will hold true to the Mission Statement of the Sheriff’s Office.  He will uphold the image and traditions established by Sheriff’s who have been blessed to serve the citizens of Fond du Lac County, and he will continue to move the office forward with his own new visions. "

Gary Pucker

Retired Fond du Lac County Sheriff
29 July  2018

"Twenty years ago, I made a decision to step up in the Sheriff's Department and seek the Office of Sheriff. That was a very difficult decision, but with the confidence that I could do the job along with the support of my family and friends, I met the challenge and went forth. The rest is history.

We have all shared 12 more years after I left office under the superb care and direction of Sheriff Mick Fink. For me, it has been an assuring period of time since we all stood up and elected Mick. He has done a remarkable job building our confidence that we made the correct decision in his leadership as Sheriff. He faced many difficult tasks and I applaud his handling of each.

My friends, once again, it is time to elect a new Sheriff.  For me, this is a choice that comes extremely easy. A dedicated, solid law enforcement candidate has presented himself with a background that I see as flawless. He defined his goals since the first day he was a recruit. Education, life experiences, law enforcement background along with community standing, dedication and support of his co-workers from corrections all the way through our law enforcement community is most admirable.

This man is Ryan Waldschmidt. I know I am repeating myself, but this is an easy decision for me to make. I feel as a continued obligation of my duties having served as your Sheriff, I still owe each of you an open expression of my position in the election process. Ryan is my choice. With absolute confidence, I support and endorse him as our “New Sheriff in Town.” I ask that you step up and review his qualifications and ambition in becoming our Sheriff. Please help elect Ryan Waldschmidt on August 14th!

Looking forward to many more years of quality leadership, continued stability, along with service and protection we can all enjoy and expect.

Current and Former Fond du Lac County District Attorneys

Eric Toney

Fond du Lac County District Attorney
30 July  2018

When Sheriff Fink told me four years ago that this term would be his last, I immediately thought of only one name as his replacement - Ryan Waldschmidt. As Fond du Lac County District Attorney, I’ve had the privilege to work directly with and watch Ryan earn his promotions to the positions of lieutenant, assistant jail administrator, and captain of operations.  I am impressed with Ryan’s intelligence, leadership and common sense as we work together to address drug issues, highway safety, chapter 980 violent sex offenders, and many other important issues.

On a personal level, Ryan and I have volunteered together to assist Drug Free Communities. While working with Ryan I have had the opportunity to observe his deep understanding, compassion and desire to fight the opioid and drug epidemic. Ryan understands we cannot arrest our way out of this epidemic and has worked diligently to develop programs to solve the underlying cause of the issue. As an example, Ryan successfully worked to expand drug testing in the jail for Drug Court and Diversion Program participants, allowing us to better monitor their compliance. Additionally, Ryan’s leadership and ability to take initiative is also proven by his actions to reduce deaths and serious crashes we experience on our highways. His efforts in highway safety are resulting in the formation of a Crash Team, which allows us to better prosecute criminal crashes.

Based upon my time getting to know Ryan professionally and personally, I can say without question that nobody is better qualified nor do I trust anyone more to become our next Sheriff than Captain Ryan Waldschmidt. It is with great privilege that I endorse Ryan Waldschmidt for Sheriff, and ask that you join me in voting for him in the August 14th Republican primary.

Mike O'Rourke

Former Fond du Lac County District Attorney

County Executive endorses Captain Ryan Waldschmidt for County Sheriff

Allen Buechel

Fond du Lac County Executive

30 July 2018

On Tuesday, August 14, 2018, the voters of Fond du Lac County will decide who will lead the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office for the next four years.  I strongly support Captain Ryan Waldschmidt to be the next Fond du Lac County Sheriff.

I have worked with Captain Waldschmidt on different projects between my office and the Sheriff’s Office and have found him to be a strong leader who advocates for needs of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as the overall needs of the people of the county.

When I look at Ryan’s credentials, he clearly is the most qualified individual to be Sheriff.  He has risen through the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office because he has performed admirably in every position he held.  Now as Captain, he is directly responsible in leading department staff, on behalf of the Sheriff, and helping to manage the $14 million budget required for the Sheriff’s Office and the Jail, in addition to leading well over 100 employees to carry out the mission of the Sheriff’s Office.  Ryan has a passion for what he does, along with good common sense and strong leadership skills which make him the most qualified candidate.  I look forward to working with him as the next Fond du Lac County Sheriff.

I ask that you join me in voting for Ryan Waldschmidt on August 14th.

Mark Strand

Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy

Ryan Waldschmidt is clearly the only Sheriff candidate that can continue the stability and uphold the mission statement of our Sheriff’s Office.  Ryan has followed a path of progression through the ranks, gaining the experience and knowledge necessary to be an effective Sheriff.  Education has also been a priority, not only in college but beyond with his work at the FBI National Academy and pursuit of other academic opportunities.  I fully endorse Ryan in his run for Sheriff!

Ben Giles

Captain Ryan Waldschmidt is the clear-cut choice for Fond du Lac County Sheriff. To the Citizens of Fond du Lac County,

Ryan Waldschmidt has served as Captain of Operations with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office for the last two years. When Captain Waldschmidt took command of the Patrol Division, one of his goals was to implement a more inclusive management style, in contrast to the traditional top-down leadership style often found in law enforcement.  He is inclusive in his decision making which makes the staff he works with more cohesive and better able to serve each other and the community. He encourages our employees to live up to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office mission statement which reminds us to serve others with "respect, fairness and compassion."
